Shares continued to slide on the HCM (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=HCM&q=HCM&language=en) City bourse but rebounded in Ha Noi. Market volume and value continued to be low on both exchanges on Jan. 26.
In the HCM (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=HCM&q=HCM&language=en) City, the VN-Index fell 0.14 per cent to close at 501.25, despite advancers outnumbering decliners by 166-66.
Influential stocks, such as insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=BVH&q=BVH&language=en)), property developer Vincom (VIC (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=VIC&q=VIC&language=en)) and software giant FPT (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=FPT&q=FPT&language=en) Corp (FPT (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=FPT&q=FPT&language=en)), all declined, dragging the index down. BVH (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=BVH&q=BVH&language=en) dropped to its floor price for the third consecutive day.
Other blue chips, particularly bank and finance shares, posted gains. Vietinbank (CTG (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=CTG&q=CTG&language=en)) rose 4 per cent, financial conglomerate Masan Group (MSN (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=MSN&q=MSN&language=en)) 3 per cent, Sai Gon Securities Inc (SSI (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=SSI&q=SSI&language=en)) 1.8 per cent, Eximbank (EIB (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=EIB&q=EIB&language=en)) 0.7 per cent, Sacombank (STB (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=STB&q=STB&language=en)) 0.8 per cent and Vietcombank (VCB (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=VCB&q=VCB&language=en)) 0.3 per cent.
Both volume and value of the day's trades declined over 42 per cent as just 22 million shares worth almost VND577.5 billion (US$29.6 million) changed hands.
SSI (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=SSI&q=SSI&language=en) was the most active stock with just 860,750 shares changing.
In Ha Noi, the HNX-Index increased 0.44 per cent to close at 105.76.
Gainers outnumbered losers by 196-85.
Market volume reached 15.8 million shares worth VND291.4 billion ($14.9 million), a decrease of 34.5 per cent in volume and over 31 per cent in value.
VNDirect Securities Company (VND (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=VND&q=VND&language=en)) became the most heavily traded stock nationwide with over 1.1 million shares changing. It closed up 2.6 per cent.
