Shares continued to retreat on the nation's two stock exchanges in both volume and value on Jan. 25. On the HCM (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=HCM&q=HCM&language=en) City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index declined 1.55 per cent to close at 501.97.
Volume of the day's trades reached almost 39.7 million shares worth a total of VND1 trillion (US$51.3 million).
Decliners outnumbered advancers by 174-64.
Blue chips tumbled. Among the 10 largest capitalised stocks, only property developer Vincom (VIC (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=VIC&q=VIC&language=en)) rose with a 3.4 per cent gain while Bao Viet Holdings (BVH (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=BVH&q=BVH&language=en)) and Phu My Fertiliser (DPM (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=DPM&q=DPM&language=en)) dropped to their floor prices.
Masan Group (MSN (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=MSN&q=MSN&language=en)) also decreased 4 per cent; PetroVietnam Finance (PVF (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=PVF&q=PVF&language=en)), 3.8 per cent and Hoang Anh Gia Lai Company (HAG (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=HAG&q=HAG&language=en)), 1.9 per cent.
Most gainers were penny and mid-cap stocks such as Tan Binh Import – Export Corporation (TIX (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=TIX&q=TIX&language=en)), Sao Vang Rubber Companympany (SRC (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=SRC&q=SRC&language=en)) and Godaco Seafood Company (AGD (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=AGD&q=AGD&language=en)), who all rose to their ceiling prices.
Sacombank (STB (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=STB&q=STB&language=en)) was the most active stock with almost 3 million shares changing hands, but it closed 0.6 per cent down.
On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index fell 0.87 per cent to close at 105.3.
Market volume reached over 24.1 million shares worth almost VND423.8 billion ($21.7 million).
Losers outnumbered gainers by 221-59.
Among the 10 leading capitalised shares, only Tien Phong Plastic (NTP (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=NTP&q=NTP&language=en)) posted a gain with a 1 per cent rise.
Asia Commercial Bank (ACB (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=ACB&q=ACB&language=en)), PetroVietnam Construction (PVX (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=PVX&q=PVX&language=en)) and Kim Long Securities (KLS (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=KLS&q=KLS&language=en)) all fell over 2 per cent, of which the latter was the most heavily-traded stock on the Ha Noi bourse with over 2 million shares traded.
