Active trading by foreigners on the HCM (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=HCM&q=HCM&language=en) City market allowed the VN-Index to rally 0.21 per cent on October 14 before closing at 458.66. Trading volume on the HCM (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=HCM&q=HCM&language=en) City market stayed low at 23.2 million shares, down 3.7 per cent from Wednesday, for a meagre value of VND597.06 billion (US$30.6 million).
About 84 of the 267 listed stocks on the market advanced, including Phu My Fertilisers (DPM (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=DPM&q=DPM&language=en)), up 0.6 per cent; Bao Viet Holdings (BVH (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=BVH&q=BVH&language=en)), 1 per cent; and the Corporation for Financing and Promoting Technology (FPT (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=FPT&q=FPT&language=en)), 0.5 per cent.
Foreign investors focused their purchase on these stocks. Foreigners purchased 144,350 BVH (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=BVH&q=BVH&language=en) shares, 221,380 DPM (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=DPM&q=DPM&language=en) shares and 188,120 REE (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=REE&q=REE&language=en) shares from the Corporation for Refrigeration Engineering and Electricals.
Securities analysts said that such trends were suitable for medium and long-term investment.
The number of stocks matching their highest prices fell to 6 from 9 on Wednesday.
The Ha Noi Stock Exchange's HNX-Index rallied by 0.05 per cent to close at 120.45 points, while declining stocks outnumbered advancers by 123 to 122.
Volume remained poor with 19.5 million shares changing hands, worth a total of VND421.6 billion ($21.6 million).
Banking and securities stocks kept rising at the day's end, including Asia Commercial Bank (ACB (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=ACB&q=ACB&language=en)), 0.1 per cent; Sai Gon-Ha Noi Bank (SHB (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=SHB&q=SHB&language=en)), 0.1 per cent; Bao Viet Securities (BVS (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=BVS&q=BVS&language=en)), 0.1 per cent; and APEC Securities, 0.2 per cent.
