The VN-Index fluctuated in a narrow band throughout most of today's session and then closed down 0.62 per cent at 451.71 on the HCM (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=HCM&q=HCM&language=en) City Stock Exchange today.
In all, 35.78 million shares worth VND933.3 billion ($47.9 million) were exchanged - a fall of 12 per cent by volume and 7 per cent by value.
The number of declines was three times higher than advances.
Ocean Group (OGC (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=OGC&q=OGC&language=en)) continued as the most active stock on the southern bourse with 2.89 million shares changing hands. OGC (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=OGC&q=OGC&language=en) closed unchanged at VND31,600 ($1.62) per share.
Of the 10 largest capitalised shares, four - Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAG (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=HAG&q=HAG&language=en)), Hoa Phat Group (HPG (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=HPG&q=HPG&language=en)), Masan Group (MSN (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=MSN&q=MSN&language=en)) and Sacombank (STB (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=STB&q=STB&language=en))- posted gains in value. Five - Bao Viet Holdings (BVH (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=BVH&q=BVH&language=en)), Vietinbank (CTG (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=CTG&q=CTG&language=en)), Eximbank (EIB (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=EIB&q=EIB&language=en)), Phu My Fertiliser (DPM (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=DPM&q=DPM&language=en)) and Vincom (VIC (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=VIC&q=VIC&language=en))-declined.
Software giant FPT (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=FPT&q=FPT&language=en) Corp (FPT (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=FPT&q=FPT&language=en)) remained unchanged.
In Ha Noi, the HNX-Index fell another 1.16 per cent to close at 125.81.
Both market volume and value declined by 12 per cent to almost 23 million shares worth VND554.6 billion ($28.4 million).
Losers outnumbered gainers 198-67.
Blue-chips tumbled.
Of the 10 leading shares by capitalisation, only Tien Phong Plastic (NTP (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=NTP&q=NTP&language=en)) closed higher, while five - Bao Viet Securities (BVS (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=BVS&q=BVS&language=en)), Kim Long Securities (KLS (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=KLS&q=KLS&language=en)), PetroVietnam Insurance (PVI (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=PVI&q=PVI&language=en)), PetroVietnam Construction (PVX (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=PVX&q=PVX&language=en)) and SHB (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=SHB&q=SHB&language=en) Securities (SHS (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=SHS&q=SHS&language=en)) - posted losses in value.
Asia Commercial Bank (ACB (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=ACB&q=ACB&language=en)), PetroVietnam Technical Services (PVS (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=PVS&q=PVS&language=en)) and Sai Gon-Ha Noi Bank (SHB (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=SHB&q=SHB&language=en)) were unchanged.
PetroVietnam Construction (PVX (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=PVX&q=PVX&language=en)) resumed its role as the most active share nation wide with 2.88 million shares changing hands. PVX (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=PVX&q=PVX&language=en) lost 1.7 per cent of its value to VND22,800 ($1.17).
