Shares on both national stock exchanges opened their first session of the week in the red this morning.
On the HCM (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=HCM&q=HCM&language=en) Stock Exchange, the VN-Index lost 1.3 per cent, ending the session at 434.43 points.
Losers outnumbered gainers by 144-81.
Trades were sluggish, with only 35.3 million shares exchanged. Market value dropped 10.2 per cent from Friday's close to VND642.6 billion (US$31 million).
None of the 10 leading shares by capitalisation posted any gains. Only Sacombank (STB (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=STB&q=STB&language=en)) and real estate developer Vincom (VIC (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=VIC&q=VIC&language=en)) managed to tread water, while insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=BVH&q=BVH&language=en)) bottomed out and others fell around 0.4 – 4.2 per cent.
Meanwhile on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=HNX&q=HNX&language=en)-Index retreated nearly 1.6 per cent to conclude the session at 73.40 points.

The value of trades only reached VND392.5 billion ($19 million) on a volume of 35.4 million shares, dropping 6 per cent in value and 3.5 per cent in volume.
Kim Long Securities Company (KLS (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=KLS&q=KLS&language=en)) was still the most active code nationwide, with 2.9 million shares changing hands.
