Blue chips propped up the VN-Index by 0.18 per cent this morning, closing Thurday's session at 418.93 points.

Insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=BVH&q=BVH&language=en)), PetroVietnam Finance (PVF (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=PVF&q=PVF&language=en)) and Vietcombank (VCB (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=VCB&q=VCB&language=en)) all rose to the daily limit of 5 per cent, while property developer Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAG (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=HAG&q=HAG&language=en)) and Phu My Fertiliser (DPM (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=DPM&q=DPM&language=en)) both closed up 1.4 per cent.
Others declined, however, dragging the index down. Real estate developer Vincom (VIC (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=VIC&q=VIC&language=en)) lost 4 per cent while software producer FPT (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=FPT&q=FPT&language=en) (FPT), Sacombank (STB (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=STB&q=STB&language=en)), dairy producer Vinamilk (VNM (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=VNM&q=VNM&language=en)) and steelmaker Hoa Phat Group (HPG (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=HPG&q=HPG&language=en)) all dropped by less than 1 per cent.
Decliners outnumbering advancers by 101-95 overall.
STB (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=STB&q=STB&language=en), with 1.48 million shares changing hands, was again the most active stock on the southern exchange, closing down 0.7 per cent at VND13,500 ($0.66).
Trading value declined 18 per cent over yesterday, totalling just VN459.8 billion (US$22.3 million) on a volume of nearly 24 million shares.
On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=HNX&q=HNX&language=en)-Index lost 0.1 per cent to close today at 71.88 points.
Today's trades remained sluggish with just 19.6 million shares worth VND216 billion ($10.5 million) changing hands.
Losers outnumbered gainers by 128-101, with Kim Long Securities (KLS (http://finance.vietstock.vn/StockDetail.aspx?scode=KLS&q=KLS&language=en)) again the most active stock with nearly 2.6 million shares exchanged, closing unchanged at VND10,700 ($0.52).
