The positive overnight performance of the of the Dow Jones sparked suppot for buying on Viet Nam's stock exchanges this morning.

In HCM City, the VN-Index rose 0.39 per cent to 449.01 points with 172 of 215 listed stocks advancing.
Trading began slowly and the 37.5 million shares exchanged generated turnover of VND944.5 billion (US$48.4 million).
Many blue chips rebounded.
These included Saigon Securities Inc (SSI), up 0.4 per cent, Sacombank (STB), 0.1 per cent, Eximbank (EIB), 0.2 per cent, Masan Group (MSN), 0.1 per cent and Tan Tao Industrial Park (ITA), 0.9 per cent.
But penny stocks were the focus of ceiling increases.
These included Ninh Hoa Sugar Company (NHS), up 1.6 per cent, Lilama 10 (L10), 1.6 per cent, Binh Thuan Hamico Mineral Company (KSA), 2.1 per cent and Hoang Long Group (HLG), 1.1 per cent.
Stocks that performed steadily on Monday were in the doldrums today and the Corporation for Financing and Promoting Technology (FPT), Phu My Fertiliser (DPM) and Hoa Phat Group (HPG) closed unchanged.
In Ha Noi, the HNX-Index regained 1.53 per cent to 130.18 points on just 26.56 million shares.
Value of the market dropped 26.6 per cent to VND657.57 billion ($33.7 million) against Monday.
The 223 gainers contained numerous major stocks, including Asia Commercial Bank (ACB), up 0.1 per cent, Bao Viet Securities (BVS), 0.9 per cent, PetroVietnam Insurance (PVI), 0.3 per cent and PetroVietnam Construction (PVX), 0.8 per cent.
About 20 listed stocks matched their ceiling price including Sadico Can Tho (SDG), up 1.9 per cent, Licogi 16.6 (LCS), 2.7 per cent, and VINAM Company (CVN), 2.4 per cent.
