The VN-Index on the HCM City Stock Exchange finally succeeded in holding gains after a topsy-turvy morning session, which saw it close at 379.51 points, edging up 0.06 per cent.

Trading value rose 9 per cent over yesterday morning's level to VND214.45 billion (US10.2 million) as around 17 million shares changed hands.

Among almost 90 advancers on the southern bourse, 11 were large-cap stocks tracked by the VN30. However, they were unable to lift the index into the green as it slipped 0.11 per cent to 445.22 points.

Property developer Tan Tao (ITA) hit its floor price of just VND3,800, while Vietinbank (CTG), Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAG) and Sacombank (STB) all fell by over 1 per cent.
On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index added 0.4 per cent, reaching 51.25 points.
Trading value soared by 83 per cent to VND74.5 billion ($3.5 million) on a volume of 12.2 million shares.

The HNX30, representing the Ha Noi exchange's top stocks, also put on 0.83 per cent to close at 93.14 points.
