Strong rises of several blue chips on the HCM City Stock Exchange pulled the VN-Index up by 0.23 per cent to 389.32 points by the end of this morning.

Military Bank (MBB) hit the ceiling price at VND13,300 a share while insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), dairy giant Vinamilk (VNM), Sacombank (STB), food producer Masan Group (MSN) and PetroVietnam Finance (PVF) gained 0.5-1.6 per cent.

MBB was temporarily the most active code with 2.58 million shares exchanged.
The VN30 tracking the top 30 shares on the bourse was up 0.42 per cent to 460.49 points.
Value improved to VND553.5 billion (US$26.4 million) on a volume of almost 34.7 million shares.

Without the support of large-cap shares, the HNX-Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange lost 0.23 per cent to close this morning's session at 52.90 points.

Trading was sluggish with just over 12 million shares, worth nearly VND76.2 billion ($3.6 million), changing hands.

Sai Gon-Ha Noi Bank (SHB) and property developer Sacomreal (SCR) were the two most active codes on the northern bourse this morning with each seeing more than 2.5 million shares traded.

SCR edged up 1.85 per cent at VND5,500 a share while SHB closed flat at VND5,300 each.
Trading will resume at 1pm.
