Stocks wrap week on bright note
Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index unexpectedly made a U-turn after falling freely on August 20 as investors fostered buying at the end of the trading session.
The gauge of 253 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange surged 0.58 percent, or 2.61 points, to close at 454.84.
Of the index, there were 103 stocks gained, 100 dropped, while 55 stalled.
Trading volume remained thin as just 34.2 million shares changed hands, valued VND909 billion.
Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) took the top position of most active share in volume with 2.26 million shares being traded.
HCMC-based Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE) came next with 1.21 million shares, followed by Vinh Son - Song Hinh Hydropower Joint Stock Company (VSH) with 1.11 million shares.
From August 25 to November 23, Vinh Son - Song Hinh Hydropower Joint Stock Company (VSH) registered to buy back 4 million treasury shares by undistributed post-tax profits of the year 2009. The minimum and maximum daily trading volumes will be 3 percent and 5 percent of registered volume respectively.
Dat Xanh Real Estate Service & Constructions Corporation (DXG) and Saigon Beverages Joint Stock Company (TRI) both bounced the daily maximum allowed limit of 5 percent to VND35,700, and VND8,700 respectively.
Despite negative movements of market, Saigon Beverages Joint Stock Company (TRI) has advanced for six consecutive trading sessions after the company announced its profits in the first six months reached VND14.6 billion.
PetroVietnam Finance Joint Stock Corporation (PVF) hiked 4.98 percent to VND21,100.
From August 18 to September 18, Do Quang, member of the Board of Directors of PetroVietnam Finance Joint Stock Corporation (PVF), registered to buy 20,000 shares, increasing his holdings to 21,300 shares.
In the same period, Vu Huy An, Deputy Chairman of PVF, also registered to buy 20,000 shares to raise his holdings.
Sacombank Securities Joint Stock Company (SBS) declined the fourth day, erasing 4.87 percent to VND25,400.
Other losers included Saigon Fuel Company (SFC), which fell 4.86 percent to VND35,200, and Viettronics Tan Binh Joint Stock Company (VTB), which slashed 4.83 percent to VND19,700.
The northern bourse failed to maintain upbeat sentiment during the trading session. Hanoi’s HNX-Index contracted 0.81 points, or 0.64 percent, to 131.41 points. Total trading volume was at 27.9 million shares, approximately VND665 billion.
The UPCoM-Index slightly added up 0.2 points to 48.45 points. A total of 330,000 shares changed hands at VND5.6 billion.
