TPP Countries Mulling Proposal For Late September Ministerial In U.S.

Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) countries are currently considering a proposal to hold their next ministerial meeting in the United States during the last week of September, according to informed sources.

The proposal, put forth by *** or more TPP countries, came after the meeting last week between the U.S., Mexico, Canada and Japan to try to narrow their differences on the controversial issue of the automotive rules of origin, sources said. The fact that the proposal for a September ministerial came after the auto meeting indicates that the four countries made progress during their discussions, they added.

Sources said the proposed location for the ministerial meeting is somewhere in the United States but not New York, which is the site of the United Nations General Assembly that will bring together world leaders from Sept. 24-30.

U.S. and Australian officials made clear last week that the next TPP ministerial should be the final ***.
